The February 2014 meeting of General Synod referred the current Women in the Episcopate legislation to the dioceses. Details are here.
Diocesan Synods have to vote on this motion, and are not allowed to amend it.
‘That this Synod approve the proposals embodied in the draft Bishops and Priests (Consecration and Ordination of Women) Measure and draft Amending Canon No 33.’
For the motion to be carried the houses of clergy and laity must each vote, by a simple majority, in favour. For this purpose the bishops do not count.
The table below records the votes in favour and against, and any recorded abstentions in each house. I have obtained the voting figures from a variety of sources, but where the detailed results have been published on the diocesan website, a link is given in the last column.
Update 23 May 2014 Church House have published a full set of figures in this press release. There were a few very minor discrepancies between their figures and mine, and I have amended my figures to agree with theirs.
